Transit Guide
Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport lies about one hundred and fifty kilometres away, around one hour and forty five minutes by car via the A14 motorway. It is the main international gateway for the area. Car rental at the airport is recommended for exploring the Gargano. Public transport connections require several changes.
Foggia is the nearest major railway hub, with trains to Rome, Naples, Bologna and Bari. From Foggia, buses or regional connections reach Manfredonia and then Monte Sant'Angelo. The journey takes time but is manageable. Checking timetables in advance is essential.
Buses run between Manfredonia and Monte Sant'Angelo several times a day. Services are reduced on Sundays and holidays.
By car, the climb from Manfredonia takes about twenty five minutes along a winding scenic road.
San Giovanni Rotondo, shrine of Padre Pio, is around half an hour away. Many pilgrims combine both sanctuaries.
Vieste and the Gargano coast are about one hour by car, with beaches, sea caves and boat trips.
In winter, snow and fog can affect mountain roads, so drivers should check conditions.
